Good morning.
Did you know 'Goldfish' are completely rebranding themselves to 'Chilean Sea Bass?'
No, seriously. But only for a limited time. Apparently, it's a bit of a publicity stunt to interest older consumers.
The real question is...will it work on you? (It might work on me).

☝️ First Hand
It's the first week of November, and what does that mean?
Ski season!
As everybody here in Colorado gets excited for snow, I'm also gearing myself up for the onslaught of wrist fractures (ski and snowboarders) and Skier's Thumbs.
What's a Skier's Thumb? Did you know skiers are at the highest risk of sustaining this specialized thumb injury?
And here's the bad news. It almost always needs surgery. Your deep dive and all the details you need to know are included below.
PS: I'll get the podcast uploaded ASAP in the next couple days. Had some technical difficulties this week...apologies to those of you who listen!

👀 X-ray of the Week 👀
This is another example of a classic hip fracture. So when someone says "Did you hear about so and so who fell and broke their hip?"... this is likely what their x-ray looks like.
Here's a not-so-fun fact. The death rate after a hip fracture is as high as 25% within one year. One of the more shocking orthopedic stats I ever learned.
There are lots of factors at play, but most prominently is the downward spiral of muscle loss -> weakness -> multiple falls -> prolonged time in bed/hospitals -> pneumonia -> etc.
Keep those bodies strong!!

Rules of Thumb Q&A
**Reminder. This is not medical advice. No patient-doctor relationship is formed. This content is for educational purposes only**
Reader Question:
"A few weeks ago you wrote about diabetes, a disease that runs heavily in my family. You mentioned that diet and exercise can often cure type II diabetes. Do you have any resources on what sort of exercise is best if this is my goal?"
Evidence:
- I've spent a few days searching for a comprehensive resource that would help with 'exercising for metabolic health.' I find the article below to be extremely helpful — it gives lots of good frameworks for exercise, but with a special angle on maintaining or improving metabolic health. This is the sort of thing that can prevent or even cure type II diabetes.

🐭 Small change | BIG impact 🐘
"If you have any doubt at all about being able to carry a load in one trip do yourself a huge favor and make two trips."
From the wise Kevin Kelly. And I couldn't agree more.
The number of twinges and tweaks I feel when I do this makes me immediately think of all my tendinitis patients. Those awkward wrist moves you make to get the last of 8 grocery bags hooked around your pinky finger are exactly what land you in my office 6 weeks later with a lingering pain that just won't quit!
