Don’t Confuse Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis

July 27, 2024

And we're back! I've got the exam behind me and am more ready than ever to get this newsletter going again. I appreciate your patience with my absence over the past couple of weeks.

Also, I have this thought every time I do it...but traveling is wild. Grade A people watching (ex: see meme below).

And it always boggles my mind just how many people are in this world. We're all in it (on it?) together, we may as well make the best of it.

☝️ First Hand

Every week, I'm asked the same important question over and over: what's the difference between osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis?

If you've ever wondered why your joints ache and if there's more to it than just "getting older," you're not alone.

These two types of arthritis may share a similar endpoint, but their underlying mechanisms, processes, and treatments are worlds apart.

👀 X-ray of the Week 👀

Do you remember a while ago when I mentioned the dangers of going down a slide with your kid on your lap?

Because their legs can get caught on the side of the slide as your body weight keeps going?

Resulting in a femur fracture?

🐭 Small change | BIG impact 🐘

Another realization I had while traveling this week.

I think one of the highest density 'potential for injury' moments we routinely encounter is those 10 seconds lifting your bag into or out of the overhead bin.

You either have a jetbridge full of anxious travelers breathing down your neck just dying to get that last bit of overhead bin space ahead of you.

Or you have a plane full of anxious travelers breathing down your neck just dying to get off the plane a few seconds faster.

So what do you do?

Lurch, yank, and heave that overstuffed bag up over your head, and then eccentrically balance it as you wiggle it between the other overstuffed bags above.

Can you hear the rotator cuffs and lower backs singing "Pop, pop, pop..."?

🦴 Bones of steel: People ask me ALL the time - how do I stop from getting osteoporosis? If there's one solution, it's a workout like this!

🥱 Where are my keys? As if sleep deprivation weren't bad enough — now we know how it torches your memory.

🥷 Low key big deal: I'm telling you, if we find the key to stopping metastasis...cancer better watch it's back.
